The road itself
It’s paved the whole way (last verified July 2026) — this is a proper national highway, not a dirt-track adventure. What it isn’t is straight: the route threads through hills and along the coast, and the final approach into El Nido is the twistiest part. Occasional roadworks or a slow truck set the pace more than road quality does.
Motion sickness, honestly
If winding roads get to you, treat this drive with respect: take a motion-sickness tablet before departure, sit facing forward, and skip reading or scrolling through the curvy stretches. A window seat and the horizon do most of the work. Drivers are used to a polite “stop, please” — nobody wants the alternative.
The rest stop
Vans pull in roughly halfway — commonly around Roxas — at a roadside stop with restrooms, snacks, and rice meals (last verified July 2026). Budget 15–20 minutes. Bring small peso notes: these are cash-only counters, and a ₱1,000 bill for a ₱60 snack makes slow friends.
Signal dead zones
Mobile coverage is decent near the towns and thin between them; the stretch between Roxas and Taytay is a known dead zone on both major networks (last verified July 2026). Download your podcasts and offline maps before departure, and warn anyone expecting constant replies. Coverage returns as you approach Taytay and again near El Nido.
What to keep in the van with you
