Most people reach El Nido the same way: fly into Puerto Princesa, then ride a van up the island. There is also a small airport in El Nido itself, a ferry from Coron, and a bus. This guide covers all four, what each costs in time and money, and how to pick the one that fits your flights.

Is there a flight from Puerto Princesa to El Nido?
No. No airline flies between Puerto Princesa and El Nido. Booking sites will still sell you a "Puerto Princesa to El Nido" ticket, but it routes you back through Manila: two flights, a connection, and most of a day for a trip the van makes in 5–6 hours. If you are already on Palawan, go by road.
Route 1: fly to Puerto Princesa, then van (the standard way)
Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) is Palawan's main airport, with frequent flights from Manila (about an hour and a quarter) and Cebu, plus a few other cities. From the terminal, El Nido is 5–6 hours north on a sealed road that runs the length of the island.
There are two kinds of van.
Shared van. Seats sold individually, several departures a day, with live times on the route page. Pickup at the airport arrivals area or at your hotel in the city, one comfort stop on the way, drop-off at the El Nido van terminal a short tricycle ride from town. This is what most travellers take, and it is what we run.
Private van. The whole vehicle, your own departure time, door to door. Worth it for families, groups of four or more, surfboards, or a late landing when the last shared departure has gone.

Route 2: fly straight into El Nido (Lio Airport)
El Nido has its own small airport, Lio, about four kilometres from town. AirSWIFT is the only airline that lands there, with turboprop flights from the Manila area and from Cebu that take around an hour and a quarter (last verified September 2026). Check which Manila airport your flight uses when you book; it changed in 2026 (last verified September 2026).
The trade-offs: fares are several times the cost of flying to Puerto Princesa and taking the van, the baggage allowance is small and strictly weighed, and flights are cancelled when the weather turns, which happens more from June to November. If you have the budget and a tight itinerary, it is the quickest way in. If you are carrying a lot or travelling in the wet season, the Puerto Princesa route is the safer bet.
Route 3: from Coron by ferry
If you are coming from Coron, a fast ferry crosses to El Nido in roughly three and a half to five hours, depending on the vessel and the sea (last verified September 2026). Book a day ahead in high season, keep bags manageable, and expect cancellations in rough weather. The pier in El Nido is close to town.
A common loop is to fly into Coron (Busuanga), ferry to El Nido, then take the van down to Puerto Princesa and fly out from there. The El Nido to Puerto Princesa Airport van exists for exactly that last leg.
Route 4: the bus from Puerto Princesa
Buses run the same road from Puerto Princesa to El Nido. They are cheaper than the van and slower, with more stops and fewer departures a day. Timing your arrival day
Most arrivals reach El Nido the same day: a mid-morning landing puts you there by early evening, and late-afternoon arrivals ride the last departure.
